Looking for a comprehensive therapy resource for working on vocalic R's? Well, we've put this together just for you! Please download it today. We think that you will love the year round theme. It will be the perfect way to screen, teach, elicit and work on the initial /R/, and the vocalic R's in the initial, medial and final position of words. It will also provide you with a lot of flash cards and worksheets for students to take home for home practice.
The vocalic /R/ words target these vowel & consonant combinations:
AR, ER, OR, AIR, EAR, IRE & UR
Let's fix your student's ability to correctly say the /R/ and the vocalic /R/ sounds!
This is the plan: First, administer the picture screener. This will be perfect for establishing baseline data on your student's ability to produce vocalic /R/ words and initial /R/ words. Often, students can say certain vocalic /R/ words and not others. Also, use the screener for informal progress monitoring anytime during the year and later at discharge for comparing baseline vs. dismissal status of the production of the /R/ and vocalic /R/ sounds in words.
Next, teach your student about the two different /R/ tongue positions with the illustrated pages on how to produce the /R/ sound and vocalic /R/ combinations.
After working on tongue positioning, complete some sound elicitation using the handy elicitation pages at the start of the units!
Don't forget to review or cut out any of the large variety of flash cards targeting the initial /R/ and the vocalic /R/ words in all positions of words. Use these handy therapy cards for sending home for review and during therapy. Keep the therapy session fun by printing out the therapy cards twice and do some scavenger hunts, memory match, or card games with them.
Then, use the NO PREP, black-lined quick print pages to teach the targeted vocalic Rs' from the vowel/consonant level, to the word, to the phrase and then to the sentence levels. All of the tasks contain initial /R/ and vocalic /R/ sound targets in the initial, medial and final position of words.
