What educators are saying

The answers I got to some of this was shocking, but this was super engaging! The students were really invested in how their answers compared to FDRs, and I think it helped them remember it a bit more long term. Great resource!
I LOVED this assignment -- my students were engaged and were able to use some skills that they do not typically utilize. Awesome.

Description

This is a highlight every year. Students really get into this. I made this assignment because my students could never really grasp the enormity and complexity of the challenges FDR faced during the Great Depression. It seemed anti-climatic to just tell them about the bunch of New Deal programs, so I created an assignment that not only forces the students to brainstorm ways to alleviate suffering and prevent future crisis, but to acknowledge the criticism they will face no matter what actions they pursue. Student remember and appreciate the complexity of the economic issues relevant then and today. I cannot recommend this enough.

I suggest following this up with "FDR's New Deal: Can You Solve Great Depression FOLLOW UP" to make sure they get the most out of comparing their ideas to FDR's actual New Deal programs.
