What educators are saying

This is a great resource to help students with writing, especially those that struggle with putting together a well-organized essay. It gives them practice writing a strong paragraph.
This was a fantastic additional resource for my expository writing unit, and helped my students overall understand structure of imputing evidence and explanations into their writing.

Description

Are you looking for engaging, expository paragraph writing activities for your middle school students? This Expository Writing Paragraph of the Week will guide your students in formal paragraph writing and informational paragraph writing.

Your students will be directed to read an engaging article, and each day, your students will be asked to complete a piece of the TALES by writing a format-topic sentence, adding a claim, lifting a line/citing text evidence, elaborating and summing up the paragraph. With this paragraph of the week, your students will sophisticate and improve their writing!

-->WEEK ONE scaffolds and teaches the students how to write a proper TALES paragraph with examples, instruction and practice.

Monday-Students are asked to read the article and write a topic sentence.

Tuesday-Students will write a claim based on their topic sentence.

Wednesday-Students will “lift a line” and cite text-based evidence to support their claim.

Thursday-Students will elaborate on their text-based evidence using sentence stems.

Friday-Students will put their entire paragraph together.
