Expository Essay Writing Template aligned w Common Core and FL BEST Standards

Hello Fellow Teacher Friend!

This 5th Grade Expository Writing Essay Template was created with students of diverse learning needs and YOU as their teacher in mind. It is a scaffolded essay writing template aligned with both Common Core and Florida BEST standards (yay!)

Writing a 5 paragraph essay is challenging work! I've used this resource in my 5th grade classroom to help students with 504s and IEPs meet the rigorous demands of the standards with a sense of success and accomplishment.

The goal of this expository essay writing template is guide students in including the proper structure and organization in their essays. We work on the Introduction and 1st body paragraph together. Then, through gradual release of responsibility (and lots of scaffolding & prompts) students complete the remaining body paragraphs with support or on their own.

We reconvene again to work on the final concluding paragraph since the format changes a bit. Students then use the revising and editing checklist to review their writing with guidance and support from me or their peers.
