Description

Students follow 5 simplified steps to use Google Maps to search the directions from their home to school. Then, they find the measured distance (displacement, a straight line on the map) from home to school. Students identify the difference between the two measured values and identify their metric converted value.

This activity is highly engaging & can spark a lot of open-ended discussions on mapping and measuring distance.

This activity is perfect for a Forces & Motion unit, a lesson on Displacement and Reference Points, or as a stand-alone measuring activity for a History or Science or applied Math class.
