Description

Experimental and theoretical probability will be investigated with this is hands on approach to learning using stations. The students will be able to determine for themselves via experimentation the difference between theoretical and experimental probability.

Students will rotate through 4 stations to collect the experimental probability data, then compare their results with the calculated theoretical probability.

Supplies needed that are not included:

  • coins
  • dice
  • decks of cards (2 stations each use a full deck)

Included in the resource:

  • 4 station with directions pages:
    • flipping a coin
    • rolling a dice
    • selecting a card by suit (hear, diamond, spade, clubs)
    • selecting a card by value (A, 2, 3,...Q, K)

  • 2 student pages for recording data from stations
  • 1 page for students to analyze and compare experimental v. theoretical (2 versions with or without complement probability)
  • 1 page more practice problems
  • Answer key where applicable (not for experimental pages)
