Would you like students to work on technology skills while doing fun Sea Animal-themed activities in the classroom or computer lab?

My students love doing mystery pictures during ICT time, but it can be done at any time. I have used it to teach my students the basics of finding/naming a cell, how to resize cells and colour-filling cells, and learning the terms rows and columns. They also learn about other buttons on the ribbon in Excel.

This is a Sea themed activity ready to go and your students will love discovering what design is hidden within the coordinates. While many students are familiar with pen-and-paper mystery pictures, doing them in Excel takes it to a whole new level of fun.

How I use this lesson:

I purchased enough plastic display folders for a class set, then printed a copy for each folder. The students get a copy and can choose what picture they want to make and are able to work at their own pace, making this lesson differentiated for all your student’s needs. I reuse the folder for other classes I teach saving on photocopying.

There are coloured and black and white copies as well as Sea Animal named sheets and ones with “Mystery Picture” written at the top, so students do not know what they are making until the end.
