Description

Includes narrative, opinion, and informative or explanatory prompts with supporting text and primary documents.

We know a little about the life of a United States President, but what about their children? What is life in the White House like for First Kids? This product includes 7 writing prompts, 3 graphic organizers, a general rubric, and 10 pages of resources (informational articles, quotes, and pictures) that give us a better understanding what it is like for children living in the White House. Check out the preview to see a full version of the product!

Today, our students are asked to research topics and use factual evidence in their writing. As a teacher, I find it very time consuming to gather this evidence. Sometimes, I just want my students to jump right in and get started! That is why I created this collection. This product contains a variety of evidence and information (chart, original articles, and primary documents) for students to use. It also contains links to facilitate further research. Students do not need to use all of the information provided to respond to one prompt. Please choose the text and prompts that work for you!

Another bonus with this collection is that students are able to transition between the different types of writing (opinion, narrative, and informative). Often, students respond to prompts in the mode that they are most comfortable with. It is usually the last writing unit they completed! Here students have the opportunity to respond multiple times using the same text as reference. This might span a week or the entire year.
