Description

This resource is for a unit on European exploration to use with your social studies students. Students will learn about the colonies the European nations started in the United States such as New France, New Spain, New England and New Amsterdam. Students will read about famous explorations such as John Cabot, Sir Francis Drake, Giovanni de Verrazano, Jacques Cartier, Samuel Champlain, Robert La Salle, Ferdinand Magellan, and Henry Hudson.
It includes:
• a ten-page nonfiction packet on European colonization in the United States with an activity
• a non fiction reading passage on the Columbian Exchange with comprehension questions
• three reading activities to use with the picture book Encounter by Jane Yolen
• a flip book activity
• a non-fiction reading packet that discusses the six reasons the European explorers explored
• a review matching game
• an assessment.

This unit was designed and used with my grade 7 small group and inclusion social studies classes.

This product includes colored version, black line masters, and answer keys.
