Higher Order Thinking Task Cards
Newly update with new graphics: This is a set of critical thinking task cards. Students are required to analyze a traditional algorithm multiplication problem to find the single error. Students are then required to use their math knowledge and vocabulary to describe the problem. Then students write an extended response to help fix the error.

The task cards in this packet can be used in a variety of ways in the classroom: individual work stations, partner/ group work, early-finisher tasks, SCOOT games and many more. Error analysis requires a higher level of thinking than simply performing calculations. Based on the level of the students in your classroom, different amounts of modeling or support may be needed.

I use error analysis as a regular part of my advanced content/ gifted math course. However, I have also used with students who are struggling to reinforce skills.
