Epic Feudal Vocabulary Project

Students are given 24 Middle Ages vocabulary words. Instead of the same old, boring "define the vocabulary words" assignment, students are given a choice of ways to define the vocabulary words. Choices are: Powerpoint, Epic Minstrel Song, Children's Book, Feudal Play, or Bard's Tale. Each choice requires a certain amount of the words being used in context in order to show mastery of the vocabulary. Included in the assignment is a word for word parody of Eminem's Oscar winning song "Lose Yourself" called Feud Yourself. Play the Karaoke version in the background and blow your students away with your rhyming skills (or challenge a student to perform it for the class). My students beg me to sing/rap it again so they can film it. I give me students 3 days to create their work and then have them present it to the class on the 4th. I always tell them that the "Minstrel" option is my favorite, and if they choose that to remember that it is NOT about good you sing, but how great your belt out clever lyrics. So far over the last 4 years every group that does a song gets a huge round of applause from the class, and me.
