Description

As many of my students begin entering the world of work, they need practice learning what tools will help them be successful. Is it okay to eat food at your job? What about bringing your phone to work? Should you look in a mirror before you go to work? Why does your personal appearance matter to an employer?

This unit covers these questions in an easy to read format, and is written at a 4th grade reading level (Flesch-Kincaid). It includes actual pictures of 15 tools that can help a student either at work or at home. It also includes a "Work Toolbox" graphic that students will put the tools that help them at work into, and a "Home" graphic that students will put the items that belong only at home into.

This unit is designed to do over the course of one week. Each day (4 total) has a different subject with a reading passage, questions to answer, and vocabulary words from the reading passage. Then the last day has the "Work Toolbox/Home" activity, plus a crossword and word search to reinforce the terms that have been learned throughout the week.

Included in this lesson are:

Our students are capable of holding meaningful employment after they graduate, and I hope this lesson on the tools for work can help them get there! Thanks for looking!
