This essay tackles the question:
Who is the most important Enlightenment philosopher?
Students are tasked with finding primary sources to support an original thesis. The file includes the topic, essay tips (that guide student thesis development), a self-evaluation, a 50 point rubric (which can be changed to suit your class needs) for self-evaluation, and an additional clean copy of the rubric to use in grading.
I like to do a round-table discussion on the day the papers are due where students share their thesis, their research, and what sources they used to defend their thesis.
