English Elective Course Syllabus -- Just a look at the course outline

This 4-page document is nothing more than a look into my English Elective for my 12th graders, Social Misfits in Literature and Film. The following is the course description:

Students who are interested in a field that deals directly with people or children may enjoy this twist on an English course. Reading and writing assignments will center on psychological and sociological reasons why the characters or people in our texts are separated from their group or society, such as being out-casted from, or rebelling against, the group. Texts, such as children’s picture books, Flowers for Algernon, 2 other novels chosen by the students, novel excerpts, and short stories, will be the foundation for discussing real world research and connections, as well as preparing students to meet a course objective for independent reading and analysis. In addition, the course will utilize several films to analyze more about why people feel misfit from their society, studying how film directors portray the struggles characters or people go through. Students may maintain an online blog website, participating in unique brainstorming activities, learning creative blog writing styles, and publishing on a global platform.

Please note that this document does not contain plans or in-depth explanations of the course units/assignments. Nor is it a formal elective proposal. But what you will get is a course description, a unit-by-unit unit summary and student objectives, some of the text/film titles, and a complete course vocabulary/topics list. This is very handy for someone looking to update their curriculum, or considering developing an elective in misfit characters.
