What educators are saying

This was a great resource to support student expectations while doing engineering related activities.
Several options to choose from help to provide some differentiation among my students. Great rubrics for STEM/PBLs.

Description

Use these expectations for engineers, self-evaluations, and rubric to foster growth mindset conversations and to track student progress over time with any STEAM challenges- no formal grading required.

These materials were developed to give teachers and students specific language and criteria relating to each step of the engineering design process. They can be used for professional development, guiding the planning of STEM curriculum, or setting expectations and encouraging reflection with students as they use the engineering design process.

All of the pages in this resource are based on one set of standards or expectations for each step of the engineering design process. Those standard expectations are included in five formats:

  • A full page poster/printable of expectations for engineers
  • A chart with space for notes or evidence next to each engineering expectation
  • A 3-point engineering design process rubric with the expectations listed as meeting the standards (3), and descriptions of how students might show that they are working towards the standards (2) or not meeting the standards (1)
  • A 4-point engineering design process rubric, which includes descriptions of how students might exceed the standards in addition to the columns on the 3-point rubric
  • A student self-evaluation with space for students to reflect on the expectations in each step of the engineering design process

All versions except the self-evaluation are included in color and black & white. The self-evaluations are black line printables.

Do you teach primary students? Upper elementary? Middle or High School? Do you coach other teachers* in STEM professional development? A combination of some or all of the above??? This resource includes three text levels for every page so that you can use the same content with all of the students you teach, no matter their grade level.

The included text levels are designated as:

  • primary text - intended for use with students who read at or below a third grade level
  • intermediate text - intended for use with students who read between fourth and sixth grade levels
  • middle school/high school/professional text - intended for professional development or use with older students

To select the page(s) most appropriate for your purpose, first examine the differences in wording for the primary, intermediate, and professional versions of the expectations for engineers. Then choose the format within the reading level that you would like to use.

In response to buyer feedback, I’ve updated this resource to include new clipart that is subtle and appropriate for any age.

The included pdf is not editable.

An editable version of EVERY page is included via Google SlidesTM files, linked within the pdf you will download. All text and formatting are editable. The clipart is securely embedded in the background of each slide and cannot be edited, but may be removed.
