How to use this End of the Year Reflection Journal:

Looking to foster a love of literature in your classroom? This Literary Quotes Reflection Journal will prompt close reading and inspire personal and literary reflection through the exploration of timeless quotes from literature.

This resource includes 24 powerful quotes for students to explore. These quotes appeal to popular teenage themes and interests and are sure to inspire deep reflection and analysis. Each quote was selected to represent both classic and contemporary literature while featuring diverse authors, including Toni Morrison, Paulo Coehlo, J.R.R. Tolkien, Sandra Cisneros, Ocean Vuong, and more!

Students can select the quote they wish to explore. Alternatively, you can assign a quote to each student at random. Using the Literary Quote Reflection Prompt Worksheets, students can begin their literary reflection. These worksheets include 13 reflection questions divided into 8 journal sections, including:

  • Initial Response
  • Context and Interpretation
  • Personal Connections
  • Literary Analysis
  • Impact and Significance
  • Talking to the Author
  • Text Connections
  • Illustrations and Visuals

These prompts encourage students to explore the thematic significance of the quotes, analyze their literary elements, and make personal connections to their own experiences or to other texts.
