Description
Hi All! Here I have included my first year Student-Centered Choice-based Art Curriculum Map in an editable version for those who are curious of how to get started and see the path that I took. This product does not provide detailed explanations of the activities that I did but provided myself, students and administration a timeline of what we would cover throughout the year.
I remember not knowing where to even begin or knowing if I was doing it right at all! The thing with TAB is that it is so individualized to your classroom and your students so this might not work for you, but it really worked for me and my transition to TAB with the kids.
I teach in a transient, title one district of English Language Learners. I see my elementary students every 3 days the entire school year. I took it very slow my first year because my students required a more modified approach with the introduction of centers and materials.
I did a combination of Community Builders, Studio Center Introductions, Explorations, Bootcamps, Big Idea Introductions, Studio Time, Critique/Sharing, and WOW Workshops. By the end of the year the students were completely self-directed. This year, we will open centers much more quickly and focus on more mini lessons, 5 minute museums and themes in art.
