Electron Configurations of Elements Puzzle Periodic Table Distance Learning
Description
Since this is a cutting and pasting activity, it will not work for the TpT digital overlay.
Teachers can create a great independent work packet from this resource by giving students the activity and answer key for self checking.
In this science activity, students will practice matching elements with their electron configurations. This activity consists of two pages: a puzzle sheet (a scrambled picture divided into fifty-six squares, each containing a name of an element from the Periodic Table of Elements) and an answer sheet (a grid of fifty-six squares, each containing an electron configuration that matches one of the elements from the puzzle sheet). To complete this activity, students should read the electron configurations on the answer sheet and then determine which element from the puzzle sheet is a match. Next, students should cut out the element squares from the puzzle sheet (scrambled picture) and glue the correct element square on top of its matching electron configuration. Students should continue working in this way, filling all the squares on the answer sheet with squares from the puzzle sheet. If the students match all the elements and electron configurations correctly, the puzzle squares will form a picture. Students may color the completed picture if they wish.
This activity is a great way for students to practice matching elements with their correct electron configurations.
If you choose to have students work on this over several days, giving each student a sandwich bag or envelope to store their small pieces may help prevent loss.
