Candlemas Day in Mexico - Reading Mexico" is the perfect SUB PLAN for February. On February 2nd, Mexicans celebrate Candlemas by dressing up statues of Baby Jesus, blessing them in churches and gathering together at homes sharing tamales and "champurrado". The "Padrino" of the feast is the person who found the Baby Jesus doll in the Rosca de Reyes. It is written in English as a Reading Comprehension Exercise with five lecture questions. Students will be able to learn about some of the special Mexican celebrations that combine Christian rites and Mayan traditions. In addition, they can learn 16 Spanish words from the word search. You also review body parts by asking them to label and color "El Ídolo" in Spanish. Great SUBSTITUTE lesson plan for February.
