This is a film viewing booklet to be paired with Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands.
The different sections of the booklet include:
- Describe your suburb (pre-viewing)- questions for students to consider their own context, and identify what it is that makes people want to live there
- Describe your ideal and imperfect society (pre-viewing)- an activity where students describe what an ideal and imperfect society would look like/act like/events, etc.
- Edward's Imperfect Society (post-viewing)- questions about the context of the film and identifying elements of satire that Burton uses
- Contrast and Colour (post-viewing)- 7 questions about the use of colour and symbolism
- Comprehendion (post-viewing)- 20 comprehension questions from the movie
- Edward Scissorhands as an example of Gothic Literature (post-viewing)- students fill in a table and identify the elements of gothic literature in the film, as well as find examples and explain what the purpose/intended effect was
- Edward Scissorhands as an example of other genres (post-viewing)- students fill in a table and identify the elements of genre other than gothic literature in the film, as well as find examples and explain what the purpose/intended effect was
For early finishers there is also a wordsearch in the booklet. This can be used as a take-home activity, or to be completed in class.
