    Description

Everything you need to introduce your middle school science students to ecosystems and plant reproduction. This is a whole topic bundle covering 10 lessons minimum (probably more depending on your class).

These lessons are engaging and challenging, with opportunities for extended writing, reading comprehension and numeracy skills. However, scaffolding is also provided to support students who may need it. We need to be able to support all our learners and their needs!

    Included in each lesson:

    1. Lesson PPT
    2. Worksheets
    3. Lab sheets (where labs are involved in the lesson)
    4. Research QR codes if needed
    5. Keyword lists & definitions
    6. Knowledge organiser to act as a support
    7. Reading comprehensions
    8. Retrieval opportunities
    9. EVERYTHING is included!

    Lesson Breakdown:

Lesson 1: Introduction to Ecosystems (with an emphasis on new vocabulary)

Lesson 2: Food chains and webs - including analysis of food chains

Lesson 3: Predator prey relationships - with graph reading skills

Lesson 4: Human impacts (opportunity for opinion forming)

Lesson 5: Bioaccumulation in food chains

Lesson 6: Invasive species - reading opportunity and great for debates!

Lesson 7: Flower structure (including lab)

Lesson 8: Plant Reproduction and polination

    Lesson 9: Seed dispersal methods

Lesson 10: Seed dispersal investigation (including lab)

FREE Lesson 1: Introduction to Ecosystems

Each lesson follows the general structure shown below:

    1. Activate: 6 recall questions designed to get the students either retrieving previous knowledge linked to this or prior topics. These have been designed with my students in mind - they may look different for your students!
    2. Model: Set the scene for the lesson and outline key new knowledge. Show students how to approach a question or task.
    3. Practice: Give the students opportunities to use the new knowledge provided and attempt the tasks modeled in phase 2.
    4. Review: Check students grasp of new concepts with a quick review activity.

On the first page of each PowerPoint, there is a link to a Google Drive containing the same resources just in case you teach in a Google school!

I have left the design simple but editable - this is due to schools in my area having specific requirements around colours and fonts.

As a bonus, I have also added in an excel spreadsheet that maps out the syllabus/curriculum plan for the topic (in the UK this is our Scheme of Work or Learning).

    It includes:

    • Each lesson title
    • Each lesson objective
    • Retrieval opportunities
    • Scientific skills included in the lesson
    • Key vocabulary for each lesson
    • Literacy/Numeracy opportunities in each lesson
    • Practical resources required for labs
    • Cultural opportunities and links for each lesson
