I used this as an activity on a day I was absent and had a sub. This is an excellent assignment as it teaches them about culture, but I don't have to worry about them not understanding the content.
I usually have students read a cultural topic after a test because some take longer on their tests than others. This is a thorough and engaging resource - frequent check ins keep students from getting bored of reading. It kept them busy for the remainder of the class period!
Description
This is a reading activity for Spanish class about La Semana Santa / Las Pascuas in Spain and Mexico. It is also a good emergency substitute activity to keep handy in your sub folder. It can be used any time in April. It includes three articles related to Holy Week and Easter traditions in those two countries. Comprehension questions follow each article. Also included is a crossword puzzle featuring some of the terms from the articles.
The articles are in English, so this can easily be used at any level and you can confidently leave it with a sub. A key is included.
