What educators are saying

My students loved this engaging resource! We were able to practice skills and have a little Easter fun before the testing season starts.
We actually get to celebrate Easter at my school and this was a fun, but educational activity to incorporate into the day.

Description

Celebrate the fun of Easter without sacrificing your reading instruction! In this Easter Reading Escape Room for grades 3, 4, and 5, students will kickoff spring using a variety of reading skills. They'll read about a spring event with an Easter egg hunt using real life texts. With each text they'll work through a comprehension challenge using a variety of skills. The words they collect from each challenge will help them breakout with the answer to the question -- Where is the golden egg hidden?

This activity is a great choice for teachers that want to review reading comprehension skills with a *nonreligious* Easter flair.

Please see the preview above for a glimpse at the four challenges students will complete.

This is a LOW/NO PREP activity. Just print packets of the challenges and texts and assign your students partners or groups. Want to save paper? Use the included PDF digital file to share the texts with your students digitally.

With its focus on a local spring kickoff event and Easter egg hunt, students will be exposed to a variety of real life texts, including:

  • a community event flyer
  • an email
  • a page from a nonfiction book
  • a student paper

Students will use many reading skills, including:

  • answering questions using evidence from the text
  • making inferences
  • context clues
  • details
  • cause and effect
  • sequencing
  • and MORE!

They'll even use a few basic math skills, like addition and subtraction, to determine some of the words they need to escape.

Have some advanced, quick workers? For those students I’ve included a BONUS ACTIVITY! The bonus art activity is a great way to keep your early finishers busy while others try to escape.

Your download includes:

  • Teacher instructions
  • Student instructions
  • Student answer recording sheet
  • Four texts all related to the the same holiday event
  • Four challenges that students will use comprehension skills to solve
  • Congratulatory display page for students that escape
  • Bonus drawing activity
  • Black and white versions of the texts
  • Answer keys for all challenges
  • PDF file of the four texts for digital use

****My escape rooms are meant to be challenging, but doable either independently or with minimal assistance. Some of your students may need scaffolding to complete activities. This is a great opportunity to teach perseverance and teamwork!*****
