Description
This bundle includes a Curriculum Planning Guide for Earth Science, as well as "I Can Statements" for each Unit. This is useful for planning both the yearly pacing and planning each unit. Included in the curriculum planner are: Big Ideas/Essential Understandings, essential questions, necessary student learning objectives, suggested content or activities, vocabulary, common Tier 2 vocabulary terms. For those in New York State, it also includes portions that outline which sections of the Earth Science Reference Table and Lab Practical can be reinforced within that unit, and which NYS standards are aligned.
These "I Can Statements" or "Keeping Track of my Learning" Pages for each unit have completely changed my class! They are specific objectives, based on standards and performance indicators, and written in first person, student-friendly language. They also include a list of suggested vocabulary for that unit assessment. Students can rate how they are doing on each one on a descriptive scale. They can then use these to guide their studying, ask questions, etc. I sometimes use them at the start of a unit, midway through, or at the end as a starting point to focus their review. On my course evaluations, many of my past students said this was one of the things that helped them the most!
