Description
This bundle contains two resources (available individually in my store - the bundle is offered at a discounted price) that would be perfect to use in a grade 9-10 (or a strong grade 8 and even grade 11) classroom for either science or history. Included are:
Earth Day and the Environment – 15 Graphic Organizers. The fourteen organizers each have three components: a definition section, a topic section, and a Website Search activity. The Organizer subjects are: Acid rain, Biodegradable, Biodiversity, Conservation, Deforestation, Earth Day, Ecology, Endangered Species, Environment, Environmentalists, Global Warning, Greenhouse Effect, Recycling, Renewable Energy, and Waste Management.
The topic section on each organizer is provided for classroom discussion or research ideas - it is designed to be flexible for you the teacher. You may assign one topic to a student, to a group, or initiate a discussion that could lead to students researching the issue more broadly.
The website search activity includes using a reliable website (the URLs are provided, except in the case where the students use their own community websites) with questions or short-answer topics provided. There is an excellent variety of activities.
With 15 organizers you will have the flexibility to use all or some of them and assign them in your class as you wish. They can be used over the course of a semester/year or focused on for the week(s) before Earth Day. Some of the organizer topics may be easier for younger students - I believe there is enough differentiation for students from grades 7-10 (and even younger advanced students).
Also included is a "Create a Website" activity that students can use with the 60 topics suggested on the 15 organizers.
Answer keys for the definitions are included (examples only, they are not extensive) and the seven Website Searches that have objective questions.

The second resource in the bundle:
A History of Earth Day is designed as an assignment unit for both History and Science for grades 9-11 and strong grade 8 students. There are three texts on the history of Earth Day (An Idea is Born, Earth Day 1970, and Earth Day Since 1970) with a page of comprehension/opinion questions for each text, as well as a vocabulary activity.
Also included is a video activity which has questions to accompany the 1970 ABC News broadcast on April 22nd (approximately 9 minutes in length) that is available here: http://abcnews.go.com/Archives/video/april-22-1970-earth-day-9779207
The video is divided into five segments about different cities across the U.S. There are 5 sections of questions (comprehension and opinion) and one added writing and research activity for students to complete concerning the current Earth Day.
Answer keys are included for all activities.
