What educators are saying

This is a very well done resource that I am glad to have purchased and will use over and over with my high school El students!
Love these practices. Listening is the most difficult one to practice with a huge group of EL's so I assign this as one of their activities and then we review whole group. I love it.

Description

***Updated with a Google Slides version AND an extra bonus PowerPoint version!***

Do you want to help your ESL students (“EBs” as we call them in Texas ;) with the Listening portion of an English Proficiency test?

In Texas, the TELPAS test is our ESL progress measure. The Listening and Speaking test is on the computer for grades 2-12. To help our students get more comfortable and familiar with the Listening portion of this important state assessment, I created some fun practice sets and activities!

The online tutorials from TEA's testing provider do not record students' answers - but this Listening Practice includes student recording sheets with screenshots to record their answers! With the easy-to-read Answer Key, teachers can quickly assess where students are in their current English listening skills. You can also see if there's a trend or pattern to the types of questions your EBs miss - with this you can catch misconceptions or misunderstandings early, before the actual TELPAS assessment! If you're like me & my fellow ESL teachers, you want to be able to intervene before it's time to test!

This product also leverages Vygotsky's social learning with a partner interview activity. The interviewer gets to choose 7 of 15 interview questions (from the highest 3 levels of Blooms) to ask their partner with each question based on one of the Listening Practice sets. An "Evaluation of the Listener" is provided for the partner being interviewed!

Now included: Bonus QR code-linked stations for every listening set!

Do some of your students find the format of listening to an audio recording strange? This product will help. For your EBs who are less nervous – this product will help them score even better than they would without this specific, directed practice.

Even though these listening practice items are designed to look like the TELPAS assessment, every part can be applied to any ESL Listening proficiency test!

Give your students a real advantage on their English Listening assessments this year!
