Description

This activity focuses on students using their LISTENING skills to pull out important information from an academic presentation. Students will watch a Ted Talk and use a Thinking Map to take notes! Once students are finished watching the video, students will practice summarizing and answering comprehension questions verbally. This activity can easily lead to a writing extension activity by using the outline and sentence frames provided in the slides. There are 4 Domains on the ELPAC test (Reading, Writing, Listening, & Speaking.) The Listening section requires students to listen to an oral presentation and answer comprehension questions. This activity provides an engaging way for students to practice their listening skills. This activity hits on three of the four domains; listening, speaking, & writing.

What is the task?

In this task type, students listen to a recording of an oral presentation on an academic topic. Students then answer four questions about the information. During an actual administration of this task type, students may take notes in their Test Book.
