Description

What is Emotional Literacy?

Emotional Literacy is the ability to accurately read, locate, and express emotions and feelings. We can't expect our students to be able to build their Social-Emotional skills and to self-regulate if they can't precisely express what they are feeling and where it could be coming from.

The Mood Meter tool for locating emotions on an "Energy" and "Pleasantness" spectrum is a method developed by the Yale Institute for Emotional Intelligence. It resembles the Zones of Regulation and so these tools will blend well with your classroom and program if you already use the Zones to assist with Self Regulation.

Ways to Use these Emotional Literacy Tools

➜ Classroom Calm Corner, Peace Area, or Take A Break Station

➜ SEL Curriculum

➜ Small Group Activities

➜ Enhance Literacy Program with Word List and Word Wall Cards

➜ Counselling and Restorative Practice
