Description

Students learn about archaeology first hand as they create ancient artifacts, bury them, dig them up and curate a museum of antiquities. Project-based learning lesson plan at its best! Deeper learning.
Hands-on, minds-on! This semester unit includes archaeological dig terms and practice digs. Then the fun begins! To start, your students will study ancient civilizations. If your teaching subject is Ancient History, you’ve got it made using a textbook. If not, these activities can be worked into a web quest or any kind of research lesson you want. Includes vocabulary, worksheets, keys, complete instructions.
NOTE: You will need a small, flat plot of land (4x10' or so) that remains relatively dry for your dig site. An undisturbed sand box will also work. Wet environments require kiln-fired clay or shards of inexpensive terra cotta gardening pots rather than raw clay. Have fun!
