Description

Imagine how much fun your students will have reading about the history of Peeps (R) marshmallow bunnies and chicks. After watching the video hook, they'll be eager for close reading the informational text to find all the clues and solve four challenges. In this engaging ELA escape room, they'll learn how the candies are made, how they got started, and write a narrative about the escape. Their completion certificate is a jigsaw puzzle with bright bunnies and chicks.

The Marshmallow Candy Escape Room Premise: (Check out the video preview to learn more.)

  • ► The bunnies and chicks have a long history with the Just Born Candy Company, but now they've escaped!
  • ► Read and reread the text
  • ► Answer the questions
  • ► Unscramble mystery words
  • ► Discover the steps in making this traditional spring time candy
  • ► Learn fun facts about this candy
  • Can you name a celebrity that loves Peeps(R) candy?

Students begin with a leveled reading comprehension passage and four challenges with text dependent questions. The Marshmallow Candy Escape Room will have your students having fun while they're practicing reading comprehension.

The reading passage, Marshmallow Candy Escape is an original informative text written by a teacher (me) about how Sam Born created the Just Born Candy Store and how it grew over the years. It's at a reading level for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.

Level up the learning and reading engagement of your students with this Marshmallow Candy Escape Room. They won't even realize they're learning! This is a no-prep printable PDF. Nothing to cut, glue, or put in envelopes.

  • Are you hoping it's a NO-PREP resource? Just print the student pages, cut four decoders, share the video hook, and you're set!

  • Are you hoping it's digital? The PDF has a link to a Google Slides (TM) version.

  • Are you hoping it's rigorous and meets standards in reading? It meets reading standards for informational texts listed below and inside the resource. The reading includes specific vocabulary. Students must refer back to the details in the text to answer the questions. It also includes an extra activity for writing if you want to extend the learning. Your students will be looking back in the text and rereading to find the answers they need to conquer the challenges.

  • Are you wondering if you can pull off an escape room in your class? No worries! I've included lesson plan instructions and a three page teacher guide. There's no envelopes, no hiding things around the room, and no extra work for you. It's as easy as printing out the student pages and letting them work on the challenges.

This practically NO-PREP resource is in printable PDF format. All your students need are pencils, and some crayons or colored pencils.
