Description
Students unsure about how to use commas? Are they forgetting them, or overusing them? This commas practice includes EIGHT rules for comma usage, and four practice exercises. It will reinforce the right way to use commas and build confidence in your students.
Like any other punctuation mark, commas are needed for clarity and expression of ideas. This product will clearly define the most common rules for comma usage in a way that students can understand.
The eight rules addressed are:
- To separate items in a series
- To separate two or more adjectives before a noun
- Before conjunctions for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so when they join two independent clauses
- To set off nonessential clauses
- To offset direct quotations or the parts of a divided quotation
- After introductory phrases and clauses
- To set apart the parts of dates, addresses, and locations
- After a salutation in a friendly letter, or closing in all letters
What you get:
- Commas Rules Reference Sheet for 8 common uses of commas with examples--students can keep this in their English notebook or binder
- Write-on worksheets where students add commas, write their own sentences using the rules presented, and choose the correctly punctuated sentence among three choices
- Answer Keys
I created this for students who are ready for more than four basic rules of comma usage, so please look at the preview to ensure you are getting what you want.
The first four rules (only) are available in another product, listed below.
Thank you,
