What educators are saying

My lil one's school is currently researching non-fiction books, and we were on the lookout for reading logs for these books. This gem of a resource was recommended by teachers as the best log. And it is true to a T! Thank you so much for creating this resource, :)!!

Description

EVERY PAGE IS EDITABLE!!!!! AND there are a variety of SIX WEEKLY READING RECORDS with five days worth of questions on every week.....

This is a growing file....I will be adding to it at times so if you buy it for this price (even if the price goes up as it grows bigger)....you get all the add-ons for FREE. So buy now!

I've always given my students reading records with no real knowledge if they actually read or understood what they read.

So I have created now a variety of -SIX- K-1 NONFICTION WEEKLY READING RECORDS with 5 days of comprehension activities for each week. All questions can be used with any fiction book. I have also created a page for the K-1 version about how to use it and introduce it with parents as well as an editable parent letter that helps explain the role of the parents in helping their child with their Weekly Reading Records.

Each question is CCSS related and based on a CCSS NONFICTION K-1 QUESTION STEMS. Here are a few examples of questions asked on the reading records:

-Draw a picture of this most important piece of information you learned from the text today.

-Find a word that was new, difficult, or interesting in your text today. Draw a picture of what the illustrator could have drawn to help you figure out the meaning more easily,

-Draw the main topic of the text today and label your picture.

-Why does the illustration and the text on each page match each other?

-Why do you think the author wrote the text you read today?

Those are some samples yet the level of complexity varies so some are easier while some are more thought provoking.

I created these and used to use them solely for home reading homework, BUT..... I began to find many more uses for them. Now I use them for many things IN THE CLASSROOM as well..... including: Daily 5, close reading questions, formative assessments, guided reading groups, parent or paraprofessional pull out groups, silent reading responses, and SO MUCH MORE!

So to use them in the classroom and at home, I created a parent signature and minutes read option as well as one with not a place for parent signatures for classroom use. Well....these weeks were all on one side of paper...as at our school teachers have to pay for their own paper BUT decided to create another version that used two pages for one week that I just copy back to back and it gives the students that need it, more room to write their responses and can have a bit bigger font. So I made two versions (one with and one without) parent signature options exactly like the one page versions. THAT MAKES A TOTAL OF 4 VERSIONS TO CHOOSE FROM of the same 6 full weeks with 5 days of questions on each week.

I have also included a rubric for your convenience.

These have been SO popular that I have created a variety of different variations of reading records....which you can find below if interested.
