Description
These phonics for older students, maze puzzles, are perfect for older, struggling readers and students with dyslexia. Developed for upper elementary, middle school and high school students they will help fill the gap in missing phonics, which leads to reading difficulties.
Simply find, color and follow the words on the phonics mazes from start to finish to learn and secure these common sounds. Then copy out the words that have been found. Simple but oh so effective!
PowerPoint and PDF versions. You can use PowerPoint slides in Google slides by opening them in the application.
I find that these worksheets encourage older students to look carefully for the sounds, which greatly improves their focus and reading ability. This in turn helps to secure the digraphs so that they can easily decode words when reading and therefore improve fluency. This leads on to improved comprehension skill.
Sounds covered: 25 sounds, 50 mazes.
-ay, -ee, -igh, -ow (snow), -oo (look), -ow (cow), -oo (moon).
-ar, -or, -air, -ir, -ou, and -oy.
-ea, –oi, –aw, –are, –ur, –er, –ai, –oa, –ew, –ire, –ear, –ure.
With answer sheets.
