Dudley's Multiplication Raps: Multiply by 5's

Dudley's Multiplication Raps combine rhythm, recitation, and repetition to make learning to multiply fun! My colleagues and I have had great experiences using these songs with our students and we know you will too.

Unlike with other similar products, there are no additional phrases or lyrics to learn or have get in the way. Each song consists of three verses. The first two verses are simply the problems and answers said to the beat, followed by a run through of the multiples. In the last verse, the problems are said but the answers are missing. Every song has a catchy chorus that students will enjoy.

Dudley's Multiplication Raps can be used individually, in small groups, or as a class. In my classroom, I would split the class in half and have them stand up when we were going to listen to a song. For the first verse, one side would call the problems, and the other would say the answers. Everyone was responsible for saying the multiples at the end of the verse. For the second verse, side that originally called the problems now called the answers and vice versa and again, everyone called the multiples. For the last verse, I (and a designee) would roam the classroom calling the problems as everyone called the answers and multiples. We had so much fun doing this!

In addition to the songs, I also had students practice by writing their facts five times each, using online resources to study, and practice with a buddy using flash cards. We'd also go through our multiples when waiting to enter a special area or whenever we had a free moment. We tracked their growth using timed tests once a week and the students became more confident and competitive over time. They also became extremely fast and fluent.
