Description

This Math Activ Studio flipchart teaches students to draw a picture to solve a problem. This lesson is aligned with the Houghton Mifflin Math Series, 7.7 - 1st grade. This lesson opens with the "Problem of the Day" in which students are asked to solve a geometry word problem. Next, the flipchart displays the daily objective. The next couple of activities display shapes with a short word problem, in which students must use the shapes presented to create the object described in the word problem - this is easily done by students going up to the board and interactively moving the shapes around to create the object. The other activities allow students think of and create their own shapes to make the object, for this one, students may gather shapes from the images library or draw their own. The students are then given a list of guided and individual work to complete (aligned with the textbook directions). The students are given a math journal entry and a review and closure question to summarize what they have learned.
