Description

This Doodle Vocabulary resource will introduce your students to 36 words associated with fiction. Students will not only learn the new vocabulary words, they’ll also showcase their learning with doodles!

You can use this resource in a variety of ways! You might:

  • Create a single packet filled with the doodle vocabulary pages that students can reference all year long.
  • Select specific pages that relate to particular pieces of literature that students are studying and highlight words.
  • Teach all the words at once as in introduction to fiction.
  • Have students add definitions to their doodle vocabulary all year long.

What is included?

Everything that you’ll need to use this set of Doodle Vocabulary is included in this resource! You’ll find:

  • Resource Overview, Tasks, and Doodle Information (3 pages)
  • Instructional tips and tricks for teachers (4 pages)
  • A Doodle Vocabulary cover page (This is great if students will be creating a vocabulary packet.)
  • Vocabulary Test for all 36 words (3 pages)
  • Teacher Keys (vocabulary and test)

In this resource, you’ll also find that there are 2 options for the Doodle Vocabulary pages. This way, you can find the set that works best for your class or for individual students.

  • Doodle Vocabulary Guided Notes – In this version, students will complete the words’ definitions by filling in some notes on lines provided. (5 pages)
  • Doodle Vocabulary Blank Notes – In this version, students will need to write out the entire definition for each word. (5 pages)

How does it work?

Completing the Elements of Fiction Doodle Vocabulary is simple and meaningful!

  1. Students fill in the definitions for each of the words (either with guided notes or by writing the entire definition).
  2. Then, they review the fun doodle task for each new word.
  3. Finally, students create doodle and fulfill the doodle tasks to showcase their learning and connect more deeply with the vocabulary.

Why doodle?

  • When students doodle or create sketches of something, they’re activating different parts of their brains.
  • This helps students to make connections.
  • Simple sketches or doodles are also powerful mnemonic devices, so students will also be able to remember the words and their meanings longer.
  • Plus…doodling in class makes learning instantly more fun and engaging!
