Description

Need a fun way to teach your students how to sort recycle, compost, and trash correctly? Play Don’t Waste Away: A Version of Scoot to Classify Waste Products This fast pace game will keep your students engaged and can be used as a lesson introduction, review, or assessment! Photo cards can also be used in your Science Center for additional sorting and classifying practice.

=====================================================================================

Note: Recycling and composting procedures vary widely. The answer key included is based on my school and county’s programs and guidelines. You will want to know your area’s programs to determine the best responses for your students.

Prep Directions:

• Print Double-Sided Game Boards for each student

• Print and Cut Apart Playing Cards. Cardstock Recommended for Durability. Lamination optional, but sadly it doesn’t recycle in my area. :P

• Place cards face-down in order on students’ desks. (One card/desk) Extras may be set out too, used as examples, or omitted.

• Prepare to play a little music of your choice if you would like to spice it up!

To Play:

• Describe the path students will move around the room.

• Students turn over card, write answer in the corresponding numbered box on the game board, and turn card back over.

• When you say, “Scoot” or play music, students move with pencils and game boards to the next card. (When they work standing, it can be an even faster-paced game.)

• Repeat until students are back in original spots.

• Have students check their work as you collect the cards in order and explain the best answers.
