What educators are saying

My students had a great time escaping from this room. It was a great way to review division with my students.
Fantastic resource - well worth the money for the level of engagement. I used this as a tech/hands on option during Guided Math centers.

Description

This long division escape room is a great worksheet alternative to practice and review dividing whole numbers with three or four digits by two-digit divisors using the standard algorithm for division. This engaging 5th grade division activity encourages active learning & collaboration. In Operation: Retrieve the Ref, students race to solve long division puzzles and word problems to find the referee and save the game. Best of all, this activity has no-prep, is fully automated, and self-checking! The online breakout is automated by a Google Form™, and can be completed by anyone with an internet connected device (Google™ accounts are NOT required).

FAQ

  • Do students need to have Gmail™ accounts? NO! Anyone with internet access and a tablet, computer, or even phone can complete the breakout. The escape room is automated by a Google Form™, but does not require the teacher or students to have Google™ accounts.
  • How long will this take? That is the hardest question as the answer varies depending on each classroom, student, or group. Some students with a firm grasp on the concepts covered in this escape room will be able to complete the challenge very quickly (20-30 minutes), others will take longer. The majority of students will take about 45-60 minutes. Requiring students to use the recording form will increase the amount of time required to complete the puzzles. The form will not save student data, so if you are worried about your students not finishing on time, simply have them write their answers on scratch paper. They can then come back and quickly re-enter their answers and pick up where they left off.
  • Will students have to search the web to figure out the puzzles? NO! All of the information needed will be provided in the Google Form™. The math in this activity is all standards-based.
  • Can this be used for distance learning? Yes! Digital escape rooms are perfect for in-person, virtual, or hybrid models!

Digital escape rooms are great for providing engaging skills practice, reviewing for test prep, or having a quick plan for a sub. This activity encourages student engagement and cooperative learning.
