Description

This 8-Day 5th Grade Math Unit covers Division of Whole Numbers and is aligned with the Common Core Standards. This unit was developed to meet the standard 5.NBT.B.6, Find whole-number quotients of whole numbers with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.

This unit will review 4th grade division standards and assist students while they learn efficient strategies to divide whole numbers through decomposing using friendly numbers within the area box model and partial quotient strategies. Understanding place value, students will learn to divide efficiently using these strategies while learning to interpret the remainder each day. Lessons and daily worksheets will provide students with practice opportunities that can be used in small group, as independent practice, or homework.

What's included:

► Eight days of lesson plans for Division of Whole Numbers (8 Smart Board and 8 PowerPoint Mini-Lessons) *Both formats included

  • DAY 1 - 3-digit dividends divided by 1 digit divisors using area box model
  • DAY 2 - 3-digit dividends divided by 2-digit divisors using area box model
  • DAY 3 - 4-digit dividends divided by 1 digit divisors using area box model
  • DAY 4 - 4-digit dividends divided by 2-digit divisors using area box model
  • DAY 5 - 3-digit dividends divided by 1 digit divisors using partial quotients
  • DAY 6 - 3-digit dividends divided by 2-digit divisors using partial quotients
  • Day 7 - 4-digit dividends divided by 1 digit divisors using partial quotients
  • Day 8 - 4-digit dividends divided by 2-digit divisors using partial quotients

*Lessons also include interpreting remainders
