Description

This is an outline of a lesson regarding the Standard 5.NBT.7. I created this lesson using models and also emphasizing on place values. This allowed my students to make connections and see patterns visually. When dividing decimals students would ask:

  • "Why do we put decimal point there?"
  • "Why is the hundredth smaller then the tenth?"

I noticed they had a lot of questions and it was hard to just explain, they needed the visual representation. Especially for the students who were below grade level or those who had IEPS/504s. After teaching my lesson I saw a significant increase in understanding not only place values but division as well.
