Description

All proceeds from the sale of this Ukraine unit will go to the GlobalGiving Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund* for humanitarian assistance in impacted communities in Ukraine and surrounding regions.

Stories are told that history may be preserved. Have you been searching for a geography and social studies unit to teach your students about Ukrainian culture without the present shadow of war?

Learn about the culture of Ukraine through folktales, living history books, and people. 20 books are recommended for you to pick and choose from. Some difficult histories are more suitable for older ages and in these cases, alternative book choices are provided for younger students.

In this 10-day country study, you will learn about pysanky, the traditional Ukrainian method of egg decoration for spring and Easter. You may be inspired to grow your own sunflowers this summer as you watch videos about it’s life cycle and the process of extracting sunflower oil.

A table of contents organizes this study into the daily rhythm of reading a picture book, watching a video (or two), and completing an activity. There are also daily short paragraphs of background information to provide deeper understanding of the picture book.

This is perfect for homeschoolers and classroom teachers alike. The multi-subject, interdisciplinary approach immerses your students in another culture.

Enjoy traditional music played on the national instrument and learn about orchestral instruments with the famous Ukrainian composer, Sergei Prokofiev. In addition, there are two more spotlights that highlight a Ukrainian artist, Maria Prymachenko and an author who has brought Ukrainian stories to the world of children’s literature.

A brief history of the country is touched upon with the flag study, and a few books are recommended to learn about the Holocaust in Ukraine and Chernobyl. Also for older students (ages 9+) is a list of six historical fiction chapter books about the previously mentioned topics as well as the Holodomor, or Great Famine.

Also included are:

  • Three art projects
  • Music activity
