What educators are saying

This was great! I was able to add a character comparison to my Lit Circle novel study that students were easily able to use the graphic organizer. It was clear, easy to follow, and my students understood what was being asked of them. Thank you
This has been a fantastic emergency sub lesson on days I have had to miss classes with my Grade 9s. I used it alsongside a short story unit and have my students the choice of what character to analyze. I plan to use it again with my Grade 10s later this year.

Description

Add some text-based fun to ANY novel, play, or short story with this easy-to-use worksheet where students choose a character and focus on evidence from the text as they examine the technique of direct and indirect characterization.

This 2-page file (both printable PDF and Google Drive versions) includes a blank form and a completed sample to show students, if you wish. The sample is from the first chapter of The Hunger Games, showing how author Suzanne Collins plants direct and indirect characterization elements to help the reader get to know Katniss Everdeen, but you could use this worksheet with ANY book, short story, or play.

Hope you enjoy this characterization activity, which works with sixth graders through high school seniors.
