Digital Tenure Portfolio
Description
Welcome to my profile! I'm an educator at a District 75 public school located in Brooklyn, NY, where I specialize in teaching students from Kindergarten through 2nd grade. District 75 caters to students with moderate to severe disabilities, including conditions such as Autism, Emotional Disturbance, and ADHD.
In New York City public schools, teachers undergo a tenure process, typically achieving tenure in their fourth year of teaching. Tenure status is granted after completing a probationary period of four years and one day. With tenure comes job security, ensuring that termination can only occur through due process, including the right to a hearing if disciplinary action is taken by the Department of Education.
Attaining tenure is a significant milestone in a teacher's career, symbolizing recognition and validation from peers. However, the journey to tenure is marked by challenges and frustrations.
To assist fellow educators in navigating the tenure process, I've created a digital tenure portfolio, incorporating the Teacher Tenure Decision Making Framework.
This framework serves as a guide, with bullet points outlining essential components. My own portfolio is organized into three sections:
- Student Learning: Demonstrating student progress in meeting New York State standards through various assessments and achievements.
- Instructional Practice: Highlighting teaching methodologies and effectiveness through classroom observations and reviews.
- Professional Contributions: Showcasing involvement in school and professional activities, supported by feedback from stakeholders.
My portfolio is fully customizable, allowing you to tailor it to your specific needs. You can edit slides, adjust fonts and colors, and modify sections as required.
