This is one of my FAVORITE things I've incorprated into my classroom this year! For reference, I am a Special Education teacher and teach a K-2 self-contained class. I always send home a paper daily communication notebook with my students so their parents can see how his or her day went. You too? Not yet, but something you think would be great to incorportate? It really is! I highly recommend usig a daily communication notebook!
Now that I went DIGITAL with my Daily Communication Notebook, it's AMAZING and I have gotten such great feedback from my families!
Here's how they work...
Each student gets his or her own copy of this Digital Daily Communication Notebook where I fill in daily on how his or her school day went. As you can see at the bottom of any Google Sheet (which is basically Excel), there are tabs...I make a tab for each week's in person learning days when the student comes to school, due to being in hybrid learning model. Each new week, I add on a new tab, move it to the "front" and label it properly so it's easy to find for the family.
I added the family member(s) on as a COMMENTOR to this document so if they have any comments or questions, they can add them on here so we have a running document. (Document, Document, Document!)
To access this notebook easily, I link it in my Google Classroom so only the student's family member can view and comment. Each child has their own digital notebook so there's no other family seeing this document. It will also always in available in their Google Drive.
Easy Peasy on your end...
Google Sheets is also an APP! You can easily fill these out through your computer, iPad or phone! It's great to have them at your finger tips to fill in or reference to when needed. This also makes it easy for parents to view from their phone!

Resize, use different fonts, colors, etc.!
Make it fun for you and parents to read!
You can change what you'd like each box to say for EACH student!
DIFFERENTIATE!
You can add in a SPECIALS section (P.E., art, music, library, computers, etc.)
