What educators are saying

This was an excellent activity for my students at this grade level, but also for some of my students in my upper grades who are academically behind in math.
I teach exclusively online and this was a great resource. My grade 1's loved it, there was a few questions we had to solve together, but overall they had fun.

Description

This digital Christmas escape room for 1st grade utilizes Google Forms™ to give you a fun and engaging math review option during the holiday wind down before winter break. In this activity, students are tasked with helping Santa and presented with series of challenge questions. Each time they answer a challenge question correctly, they will earn a letter to the code. Once all 9 letters are found, they will then unscramble them to solve the mystery. Most of the questions are presented as word problems.

Count to 120, starting at any number less than 120. In this range, read and write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written numeral.
Understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones. Understand the following as special cases:
Add within 100, including adding a two-digit number and a one-digit number, and adding a two-digit number and a multiple of 10, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used. Understand that in adding two-digit numbers, one adds tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose a ten.
Given a two-digit number, mentally find 10 more or 10 less than the number, without having to count; explain the reasoning used.
Solve word problems that call for addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or equal to 20, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
