Description

Help students learn how to use a dictionary. Promote student autonomy in learning vocabulary. Teach students to evaluate the quality of dictionaries and dictionary websites and apps. I designed this for my ESL students, but it works great for any student who needs to brush up dictionary skills.

This is a straightforward worksheet to help students understand what kind of information they can find in a dictionary. Students take their favorite dictionary or app and check off what information they can find in it. If each student has a different dictionary, they can compare the merits of each. For my ESL students, we then go on to talk about how to use the information in the dictionary. Students are often shocked to discover how helpful a dictionary can be in learning new words.

Teacher Notes on how to use the worksheet are included. I've even included a list of reliable dictionary websites to share with your students. All you need is a dictionary for each student or group of students and the worksheet.
