What educators are saying

This template worked so well as an online activity! I went through the lesson part with my students, and then they worked on the poem when they had extra time in class. We had so much fun with it, and it was nice to be able to print the poems when they were finished. They look great hanging up!
My 6th graders had a lot of fun with this! The lesson and template were well-designed, and the scoring rubric made this easy for me to grade. Thank you for a great resource.

Description

⭐ NO PREP DIGITAL OR PRINT ACTIVITY: Engage students in 5th, 6th, and 7th grades as they learn about diamante poems and use this template to write their own poems on the topics of their choice.

Students will:

  • read background information about diamante poems
  • view examples of synonym and antonym diamante poems
  • view a list of topic ideas and do some prewriting
  • review parts of speech while crafting their poems (nouns, adjectives, and verbs)
  • format their rough draft on a graphic organizer
  • type a final draft of their poem
  • use a rubric to help guide them through the process

This lesson takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete. (This is dependent upon the ages and levels of your students.)

**DESIGNED FOR GRADES 5-7**

Students can complete their poems with teacher guidance and pacing or independently and at their own pace. It can be used in both the traditional classroom and for remote learning.
