What educators are saying

This provided a visually appealing way to teach dialogue and offered a lot of practice opportunities. I used it at the end of the year this year but will use it at the beginning of the year next year before we start writing narratives.
This entire resource is AMAZING! Such a time saver when it comes to pulling resources, creating a slideshow, and then finding worksheets! It was all right here and easy to prepare. The material was worded in a way that my students could understand! THANK YOU!

Description

Do your students misuse quotation marks when trying to add dialogue to their stories? Would you like to teach them the punctuation rules for writing with dialogue? If so, this highly interactive 71-slide Writing Dialogue PowerPoint may be exactly what you are looking for!

Three dialogue rules are introduced.

  1. Quotation marks enclose the words that the character said.
  2. Use a tag at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end of the dialogue.
  3. Use the correct punctuation for writing dialogue.

Next, punctuation rules associated with writing dialogue are introduced. It concludes with 15 practice dialogue examples. Students are presented with speech bubbles, and they must write a written sentence based on the slide they see.

PowerPoints filled with visuals are ideal for teaching new content to students because PowerPoints tend to be highly engaging and concepts can be easily broken down into understandable chunks of information. But let's face it... they are so time-consuming to create! Fortunately, now you have an option of using one that is already complete, kid-tested, and ready to go for you!

This file also includes a 4-page PowerPoint companion handout. Students will remain engaged when they write on their own handout as you advance through the PowerPoint. When complete, they have a valuable tool for future reference! The companion handout is available in both printable format or digital format.
