Design your Dream Backyard: Adding Money Project

Are you looking to find an engaging math project for students to work on at the end of the school year? This Design your Dream Backyard math project will review adding money, multiplication, division, area, and perimeter. This product is intended for students in grade 4, but can also be used in grades 3 & 4 with some modifications.

  • Students track the items they are purchasing, quantities, and total costs.
  • Students will complete an order form on patio/deck materials, soil & seed for the grass & garden(s), plants for the yard, as well as additional items (such as a swimming pool, fire pit, trampoline, swings, a slide, etc).

• Finding Area and Perimeter Recording Sheet
  • Students find the perimeter and area of the patio/deck, grass area, and garden(s).

• Digital Paper for Patio/Deck Materials (5 sheets)
  • 2 full pages of stone, 2 pages of wood, and a page of brick.
  • If a student creates a stone patio, for instance, he/she can cut out the proper size patio from the full sheet of brick and glue it onto the grid paper.

• Clipart of All Plants/Items on Pricing Sheets
  • Clipart comes in both color & black and white.
  • Clipart has black rectangular borders to make cutting easy for students.
