What educators are saying

A great resource to use in speech therapy to target EET goals! It's a very engaging activity. Thank you!
All kids love board games! I love finding new ways to help my students practice their describing skills!

Description

Make semantic mapping, describing, and vocabulary building FUN and engaging with this set of board games! These 17 printable game boards will provide lots of practice for students to describe common items and people in lots of different ways! They are ideal for speech language therapy, but they can also be used in the classroom or sent home for extra practice.

These game boards can also be used to help teach and practice each "bead" on the EET (Expanding Expressions Tool). My students needed extra practice to learn how to describe items/people/animals/etc, according to EET’s recommended categories. Focusing on each “bead” category helped them become more proficient EET users, and these game boards are perfect for that!! Plus, a little friendly competition keeps my students motivated!

About this resource

Each of the game boards should be played in the traditional way. Each student rolls the die or spins the spinner and advances “X” spaces on the board. He/she then describes the item/picture landed on based the criteria for the game board. You can also require students to describe each item they passed along on the way.

What's in this resource?

  • 2 game boards focus on describing category/group
  • 2 game boards target describing the items’ action or function
  • 2 game boards target describing location (where you would find it)
  • 3 game boards focus on describing the items’ composition (what the item is made of) * I find students have the most difficulty with this skill.
  • 2 game boards require students to describe the items’ parts or components
  • 2 game boards target describing appearance/physical attributes (what the item looks like)
  • 4 game boards ask students to tell everything the know about the items that land on.

✂️ EASY PREP: Print the 17 individual game boards on cardstock or paper. Laminate for durability. No cutting needed! Use your own game pieces and die or spinner OR use the “make your own” die or spinner in the download.

It should be noted that EET/EETchy/Expanding Expression Tool’s copyright belongs to Sara Smith, SLP. I highly recommend this program for increasing expressive language skills. http://www.expandingexpression.com
